Osage County R-3 School District MSIP

WESTPHALIA, Mo. - Fatima Schools Superintendent Joe Scott said district administrators generally are "very happy" with the overall MSIP scores.

"We were one student away from a 100 percent score," Scott explained. "But when your scores have been consistently above 97 percent, it is very difficult to achieve the 100 percent mark."

Administrators are confident that students are on the right track, he said, because the district "implemented a new assessment/evaluation system last year that has helped keep our students on track."

Scott said the seventh-grade math scores were much lower than expected, so they'll be studied to see if any changes are needed.

"With the new Missouri Learning Standards implementation, we will focus on reading and math in the next few years," he said.

But 97.1 percent of the students taking the Algebra II test scored at the proficient or advanced level, so that's one area the district expects to brag about.

Other highlights from the test results, Scott said, were sixth-grade math, 86.8 percent proficient and advanced; fifth-grade science, 94.4 percent proficient and advanced; and English II, 87.9 percent proficient and advanced.

"We have several others in the 70 percent to 80 percent range," Scott said.

And, he said, people should remember that test scores are just one part of the Fatima district's story, where "our students in pre-kindergarten through 12th grade receive a quality education."
