North Callaway R-1 School District MSIP

KINGDOM CITY, Mo. - North Callaway R-1 Schools once again fared well in its Annual Performance Report, holding steady with 129 points out of 140 possible - 92.1 percent -under the second year of MSIP 5 standards.

Superintendent Bryan Thomsen attributed that strong showing to hard work by teachers and students alike.

"Our staff works really hard to provide our kids with the best education they can, and they also do really well adapting to changes, whether they're required by the state or the district," Thomsen said. "The other part is we have great kids, and our curriculum by Assistant Superintendent Nikki Kemp has a big part, too."

The district's points in the MSIP 5 standards category were all identical to last year: 51 out of 56 for academic achievement; 9 out of 14 for subgroup achievement; 29 out of 30 for college and career ready; 10 out of 10 for attendance; and 30 out of 30 for graduation rate.

Kemp said the district saw improvement in attendance across the board at all three elementary schools. She cited graduation and college and career readiness as areas where the district is always striving to improve.

Under the academic achievement standard, Kemp said the district had its strongest showing in science, although she noted that subject area is tested in only the fifth, eighth and eleventh grades whereas English/language arts and math are tested at all grade levels that take the state assessments.

Despite steady points at the district level, Hatton-McCredie Elementary saw some significant drops in academic achievement - specifically going from a perfect pair of 16s in math and science to 9 out of 16 points in both subject areas, with corresponding drops in points earned for those areas in subgroup achievement as well.

"We'll be looking at every area and seeing where we can improve," Kemp said. "We're looking for that steady growth - how can we move to that next step? We want our students to be getting everything they need to be college and career ready."
