Blair Oaks School District MSIP

WARDSVILLE, Mo. - Blair Oaks exhibited some of the highest academic marks in central Missouri, exceeding the state average in numerous subjects by an average of 16.4 percentage points, according to Missouri's most-recent accountability report for education.

Here's a breakdown of the percentage of students who are proficient or advanced in a given subject:

• English/language arts, 70 percent.

• Math, 70 percent.

• Science, 78 percent.

• Social studies, 73.5 percent.

Blair Oaks earned 130.5 of the 140 points available, for an overall score of 93.2 percent.

That score is slightly lower than Southern Boone County's 97.1, but it reflects the incentive Missouri offers to districts who show continual growth and improvement - which SoBoCo did in math.

For example, Blair Oaks math scores are actually higher than SoBoCo's. But because the latter district was able to show "growth" in individual students' learning, it was able to pick up a few extra points in the "academic achievement - math" category.

Superintendent Jim Jones said he was pleased with his district's performance.

"When you are trying to find the most-fair way of evaluating 529 districts across the state, it's extremely difficult," he said. "DESE does its best to create a fair and effective method of evaluation.

"We're by no means dissatisfied ... we're very, very pleased with our annual progress report."

Blair Oaks exceeded the state average in every one of 22 tested categories - from third grade language arts to high school government.

In two categories, eighth-grade science and American History, Blair Oaks outpaced the state average by more than 30 percentage points.
