St. Elizabeth R-4 School District MSIP

ST. ELIZABETH, Mo. - The St. Elizabeth R-4 School District received a 100 percent rating in all areas of its annual performance report for 2014.

The elementary grades have received this rating two years in a row, and had it not been for a slight dip in science scores in 2013, the high school would have also achieved this, officials said.

"Our community has incredibly high expectations for our students," said Superintendent Toni Westbrooks-Taylor. "They take pride that we understand students are headed for higher education when they graduate. That puts us in a position to get them ready for that."

Westbrooks-Taylor said they also take children's needs first instead of following popular trends in education.

"It's worked for years and we'll continue to make it work for us," she said. "We do use Missouri learning standards as a guide, but we make our own curriculum. Each teacher controls their curriculum based off the standards."

Westbrooks-Taylor noted their pre-kindergarten program is parent funded, with children as young as 4 enrolled.

"Students get a great foundation so that by the time they're ready for kindergarten, some kids can be at almost a first-grade level," she said. "We also take pride on pre-assessment, looking to see if there is a class lagging behind and getting them support. We also have a tutoring program and if students are missing something our teachers not only offer tutoring, they drop off homework in the area of deficiency. Our parents work with students, and our students push each other so there are high expectations for teachers and our students."
