12 area players nab all-state laurels in basketball

A total of 12 area players were honored when the Missouri Basketball Coaches Association announced its all-state teams recently.

In Class 5, a Jefferson City boy and girl were named all-state.

For the Jays, senior O.G. Anunoby landed on the team after a season in which he averaged a double-double with 22 points and 10.1 rebounds per game. He also averaged 3.6 blocks per contest.

Making the team for the Lady Jays was junior Megan Foster, who averaged 15.9 points and 3.4 assists per contest.

Helias senior Isiah Sykes earned a spot on the Class 4 boys team, as he averaged 16.3 points, 2.0 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 2.1 steals per game this season. Helias earned the eighth spot in final state poll, as the Crusaders fininshed with a record of 21-7.

Eldon senior Sara Rhine made the Class 4 girls team after a season in which she averaged a whopping 32.6 points per game. In addition, she posted averages of 9.6 rebounds and 2.8 steals per contest.

Three area players made the Class 3 teams.

Blair Oaks senior Kory Franks made the team after averaging 15.0 points and 3.6 assists per game. He connected on 40.4 percent of his shots from 3-point range (82-of-203) and made 78.6 percent from the free-throw line. He helped the Falcons finished ninth in final poll with 21-8 record, as they lost in the state quarterfinals to Stafford, which finished second in the state.

Joining him on the team was Versailles senior Trey Woods, who posted totals of 20.7 points, 7.4 rebounds, 5.8 assists and 3.0 steals per game.

Fatima senior Morgan Brandt made the Class 3 girls squad. She racked up 18.7 points, 6.2 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 3.9 steals per contest while helping the Lady Comets finish 10th in final poll with a 23-2 record.

In Class 2, a pair of Tipton girls were honored. Ashton Pace, a senior, averaged 17.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.3 blocks per game. Destiny Dowell, a junior, posted totals of 16.5 points, 2.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists per contest. Their efforts helped the Lady Cardinals finish fifth in the final poll with a 28-2 record.

Three girls were honored in Class 1, two from Tuscumbia and one from Chamois.

Tuscumbia senior Kendra Vaughan made the team after a year in which she scored 19.1 points per game and also averaged 4.9 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 3.6 steals per contest.

She was joined by junior teammate TaKayla Gunter, who put up totals of 19.0 points, 7.2 rebounds, 6.0 assists and 3.8 steals per game.

Tuscumbia, which finished third in the state, held down the same spot in the final poll with a record of 27-4.

Also making the team was Chamois senior Paige Nolte, who averaged 21.7 points and 10.1 rebounds per game while shooting 53 percent from the field and 43 percent from 3-point range.

In addition, 10 area players were named to the MBCA Academic All-State teams.

Making the girls squad were Nolte, Helias' Molly Sandbothe, Blair Oaks' Robyn Schroeder and Fatima's Kristen Boeckmann, Leah Kesel and Kate Massman.

The boys honored were Helias' Hale Hentges, Jefferson City's Isaac Roling and Fatima's Alex Dickneite and Ross Dickneite.
