A prayer vigil in Jefferson City has been scheduled for everyone interested in gathering to support Chad Rogers family as they continue to search for him.

The event was set from 4- 7p.m. today (Wednesday) at First United Methodist Church, 201 Monroe Street.

This will be an informal gathering time and pastors will be available as needed to pray with participants.

Meanwhile, the search continues for the former youth minister at First United Methodist Church in Jefferson City who was reported missing after going for a jog in western Missouri.

Chad Rogers was last seen jogging Monday night in his hometown of Liberty.

Liberty police Tuesday began using dogs in the search for the 30-year-old man. Police said K-9 units picked up his scent late Tuesday afternoon on a trail near Liberty Middle School.

Friends organized a search on Tuesday, but police initially asked them to put the effort on hold to avoid interfering with the dogs. After the dog took a rest and was back on the scent, more than 450 volunteers headed out to search in groups.

The search by police and citizens continued on Wednesday.

News of Rogers’ disappearance first hit Jefferson City through a Facebook post.

“Our communications director saw a post on Facebook from his wife, and we were shocked,” said Jerry Kelly, church administrator at First United Methodist Church of Jefferson City. “After we found out, we went and prayed as a group that he would be found safe.”

Even though Rogers wasn’t at the church very long, Kelly remembers him as a high-energy person. He was hired as the full-time youth director in August 2011 and had that position before moving to Liberty last fall to be near his family.

“He had a great rapport with kids,” Kelly said. “He expected a lot from himself and was a very good runner.”

Rogers has completed the Boston Marathon.

“He was a very grounded person and very outgoing,” Kelly added.

Kelly said he wasn’t sure if any church members would be going to Liberty to help with some search efforts that were being put together by friends of Rogers.

Rogers is 5-foot-10 with a shaved head and several tattoos. His father describes him as a stay-at-home dad.

Authorities have asked for the public’s help and friends and family have started a Facebook page called “Bring Chad Home” to post updates and get information that might help find Chad.
