Joyce Ellen Schaefer

Joyce Ellen Schaefer, 81, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 30, 2022, with her family at her side. She was born on September 27, 1940, in Sedalia, Missouri, a daughter of the late Carl and Letha (Gerkin) Romig. On June 7, 1969, she was united in marriage to Donald Leroy Schaefer in Columbia, Missouri. She was a 1958 graduate of Green Ridge High School. Joyce worked for many years as a nurse at Ellis Fischel, at McGraw Edison and finished her career as a cook supervisor at the Missouri State Highway Patrol Police Academy. Joyce liked to keep her mind and hands busy so she was an avid reader, pieced quilt blocks, embroidered, and put together puzzles. Most of all she loved and adored her family, especially the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Joyce is survived by her husband of 53 years, Donald; children, Donald Schaefer Jr. (Pam Walther), Doug Schaefer (Barb Kemple), Donna Mehrhoff, and Darryl Schaefer; grandchildren, Brent Schaefer (Alicia Wise), Annie Schaefer (Bobby Kloeppel), Lisa Dittmer (Curt), Wayne Schaefer (Amy) Brittney Beasley (Tony Smith) and Katrina Howard (Kelly); great-grandchildren, Dylan Wise, Addison Schaefer, Kaidence, Lucas and Jacob Dittmer, Avery Schaefer and one on the way; and brothers, Gary and Lloyd Romig. She was preceded in death by her brothers, RoyLee Romig and Donnie Romig. Friends will be received on Tuesday, September 6, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Funeral Service will follow at 12:00 p.m. Entombment will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Garden Mausoleum. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
