Martha Anne Sabo, 78, of Columbia, Missouri, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Sunday, November 20, 2022, at Boone Hospital. She was born on August 7, 1944, in Lexington, Kentucky to the late Rev. Charles and Anna Lee (Fortner) Guest. On February 12, 1966, she was married to Paul Sabo at First Presbyterian Church in Jefferson City, Missouri. Martha spent much of her life in the St. Louis, Mo. area and later, Columbia, Mo. Martha graduated from Jefferson City High School and then attended one year at Lincoln University. She then transferred to the University of Missouri where she would earn her degree in Education with a specialization in Fine Arts. Martha was a brilliant woman who was simply born to teach. She taught art classes for elementary schools in the Ferguson Florissant school district for 25+ years. She would retire as the Director of Fine Arts for the same school district. To see her in a classroom was a true joy, as she undoubtedly left lasting impressions on the thousands of students she taught over the years. Martha had a deep passion for all things creative and had an artistic eye like no other. Her works included many mediums and techniques: drawing, painting, sculpture, print making, photography and fiber. Martha could make something new out of what most would consider old. She also enjoyed antiquing, traveling and spending time with her wonderful family. Martha had a vast array of friends throughout her life that grew to be family. She possessed a unique sense of humor and was quite witty. Martha was tough and independent and would often let you know it by professing, “I have brothers, don’t mess with me!” Most of all, Martha was a lovely Wife, Mother, Grammie, and Sister whose spirit will live on in those she loved. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Paul; son, Brian (Suzanne) Sabo; daughter, Sarah (Travis) Horn; grandchildren, Cole and Caitlin Sabo and Layla and Dane Horn; brother, Tim “T-Bone” (Sarah) Guest; sister, Virginia (Roy) Blackburn; nephews, Neal Blackburn and Corey Guest; and niece, Elizabeth Kuder. She was preceded in death by her parents, Rev. Charles and Anna Lee; and one brother, Tom Guest. Martha had always hoped to have her works on display, and as such, A Celebration of Life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, December 3, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. -7:30 p.m. at the Columbia Art League, Columbia, Mo., where her Art will finally be displayed. A private service and burial for family will take place prior at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City, Mo. on Saturday as well. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Columbia Art League, 207 S 9th St., Columbia, MO 65201. Arrangements are under the direction of HOUSER-MILLARD Funeral Directors, 2613 West Main Street, Jefferson City, Missouri 65109 (573) 636-3838.
