James David Carlson

James (Jim) David Carlson, age 70, formerly of Jefferson City, died April 6, 2022, at his home in Sun City West, Ariz., due to complications from kidney cancer. Jim was born on June 28, 1951, in Minneapolis, Minn. to Robert E. and Jean W. Carlson. He grew up in Pine City, Minn. Jim graduated from Pine City High School in 1969, and earned his bachelor's and master's degrees from the University of Minnesota. He spent most of his career working for the State of Missouri in Jefferson City before retiring. He relocated permanently to Sun City West, Ariz. in 2015. Jim married Lyn Konstant in 1981, in Milbank, S.D. They had two children, Martha and Lucas. Jim's love of music and theater were key components of his life. He sang to his children and granddaughters frequently. He shared his beautiful tenor voice in many singing groups including church choirs, community choruses, small ensembles and quartets. He soloed for many weddings and funerals. Music fed his soul and he found great joy in sharing his gift with others. Jim's community spirit was exemplified in his volunteer activities though the United Way of Central Missouri, the Recreation Centers of Sun City West, Sun City West Foundation, many churches and singing groups. He used his fiscal expertise with some of these organizations and for others he developed skills in web page development and adding a Facebook presence. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his family and friends deeply. He believed in giving back to and promoting his community. Jim is survived by his wife, Lyn Konstant of Sun City West, Ariz.; daughter, Martha (Tom) Guyer; son, Lucas and twin granddaughters, Millie and Rose Guyer, all of Kirkwood, Mo. He also is survived by his brother, Robert (Mary Jane) of Plymouth, Minn.; his sister, Cindy of Sun City West, Ariz., two sisters-in-law, Laurie Settje of Corona, S.D. and Kathy Hoskins of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and brother-in-law, John (Kathy) Konstant of St. James, Minn. He was preceded in death by his parents and his brothers, David who died as an infant and John Thomas (Tom) Carlson. No service is planned.
