Barbara Lee Carel, 89, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2022, at Heisinger Bluffs. She was born January 8, 1933, in Jefferson City, the daughter of the late Louis Frederick and Ofa (Cardwell) Fischer. She was a graduate of Jefferson City High School. Barbara was united in marriage on March 21, 1953, in Jefferson City to Richard Lawrence Carel Sr., who preceded her in death on March 12, 2017. Barbara spent much of her life caring for her husband, children, and grandchildren as a homemaker. She also worked for St. Mary's Health Center as a clerk and for the Jefferson City Public Schools as a cook. She was a member of St. Peter Catholic Church. Family was everything to Barbara and she also enjoyed playing cards. Survivors include six children, Diane (Johnny) Stevens, Jefferson City; Richard (Debbie) Carel Jr., Holts Summit; Debbie (Rick) Ponder, Jefferson City; Sharon (Andy) Lage, Mary's Home; Karen (Jim) Lute, Jefferson City; Wanda (Chip) Isenberg, Henley; 15 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Richard Carel; grandson, Darin Carel; great-grandson, Cohen Isenberg; one sister, Dorothy Luebbert; and a brother, Louis Fischer Jr. Visitation will be 8:30-10 a.m., Friday, March 11, 2022, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Peter Catholic Church with the Rev. Jeremy Secrist officiating. Burial will be in Resurrection Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the American Diabetes Association. Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
