Gregory Albert Shields

Gregory Albert Shields, 58, of Russellville, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, February 21, 2022, at his home. He was born on May 22, 1963, in Sonora, California, a son of Larry Shields and Lorraine (DeBroeck) Smith. He was united in marriage on October 4, 1986, to Kristi Platter at St. Martin Catholic Church. He was a 1982 graduate of Cole R-1 in Russellville. Greg worked as a heavy equipment operator for Local 513. Greg had a natural curiosity for learning. He enjoyed being outdoors, looking for unique rocks, arrowheads and taking an evening drive to see how many deer he could count. He enjoyed watching a variety of motorsports with family and friends. Greg never met a stranger and was a wonderful friend who was always willing to lend a hand. Greg is survived by his wife of 35 years, Kristi; children, Brian Shields (Catlin) and Katelyn Shields (Seth Raithel); parents, Lorraine and Marvin Smith; siblings, Steve Smith (Dave Favale) and Angel Embry (Dale); father and mother-in-law, Charles Platter and Karen Platter; and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Larry Shields; sister, Becky Kremer; and brother, Matt Smith. Family and friends will be received at St. Martin Catholic Church on Saturday, February 26, 2022 from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. with Mass of Christian Burial to begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at St. Michael Parish Cemetery in Russellville. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
