Leo Henry Maasen, 95, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 29, 2022, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was born on September 8, 1926, a son of the late Herman Maasen and Katherine (Nilges) Maasen. He was united in marriage on September 1, 1951, to Angeline Ann Kempker. After his honorable discharge, he worked for International Shoe Company, Modern Litho Printing, and Florsheim Shoe Company. He also worked part time driving the school bus for John Sitton Transportation. Leo was an avid St. Louis Cardinal Baseball fan and would hardly ever miss a game. He could be seen watching the game on TV while also listening to it on the radio, because he said the radio was more exciting. He learned to play pinochle in the service and came home and taught his family. He loved the Kansas City Chiefs and was extremely excited to see them win Super Bowl LIV. While he was in the Army and stationed in Italy, he was able to see the Leaning Tower of Pisa. In 1991, he and Angeline were able to climb Diamond Head in Hawaii. His favorite hobby was dancing with his wife of 70 years. He loved his children and grandchildren, and will be dearly missed by them all. He is survived by his three daughters: Beverly (Kenneth) Frank and Rosina (Jim) Loethen, both of California, Missouri, and Le (David) Meyer of Jefferson City; three sons: Leon (Angela) Maasen and Philip Maasen, both of Jefferson City, and Paul (Diane) Maasen of Westphalia; son-in-law: Joe Rains; 25 grandchildren: Tammy Wagner, Amy Hagenhoff, Dawn Herigon, Eric Bruemmer, Alan Bruemmer, Travis, Mathew, Shane and Lance Frank, Amanda Buschmann, Justin Rains, Darick, Cameron and Bryce Maasen, Jasmine Carrender, Brandy Martin, Ty, Corey and Katie Maasen, Blaine and Katelyn Meyer, and Rachel, Nicolas, Brittany and Wyatt Loethen; 28 great-grandchildren with another due in March; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
