Gene Coale

Gene Coale, 97, of Jefferson City, formerly of California, Mo., passed away on Monday, December 12, 2022, at Oak Tree Villa surrounded by family. She was born September 18, 1925, near Latham, Mo., the daughter of Rufus and Mona Knife Hofstetter. Gene attended Latham High School. She worked at factories in Moniteau County. She married Robert W. Coale on October 25, 1947, in California, Mo. She was a member of California First Baptist Church and a VFW Auxiliary member. She loved playing cards, including Bunko and Hoof and Mouth. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Gene is survived by her daughter, Bobby Gene Klass (John), daughter, Thora Kempf (David), son, Louis Coale (Toko), daughter, Jennifer Brendel (Larry); siblings, Dolores Bestgen, Dale Hofstetter, Ross Hofstetter, Darlene Matthews, Kay Hofstetter, Ramona Luebbert; grandchildren, Jessica Wieberg (Troy), Kimberly Klass, Melody Klass, Brandon Kempf (Kerensa), Nathan Kempf (Rebecca), Shannon Kempf (Amy), Samantha Kempf, Zephaniah Coale, and Hadley Brendel; great-grandchildren, Jacob Wieberg, Emma Wieberg, Gabriella Kempf, Annabeth Kempf, Oliver Kempf, Margaret Kempf, Theodore Kempf; along with several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Robert Coale; siblings, Wilma Lee Thompson, Gilbert Hofstetter, Don Hofstetter, Nadine Garber, and Vernon Hofstetter. Visitation will be held Saturday, December 17, 2022, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. The Funeral Service will follow at Noon at Windmill Ridge Funeral Service with Rev. Jeremy Anderson officiating. Private family inurnment will be at a later time at California City Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the California Nutrition Center.
