Carl Wesley DeBrodie, 87, passed away on Sunday, April 17, 2022, at his home. He was born on January 22, 1935, a son of the late Dominique and Hattie (Phelps) DeBrodie. He was united in marriage to Shirley Watson in 1955, who preceded him in death. Carl attended Fulton and Mokane public schools. He was a dedicated employee for Allied Waste for over 50 years. Carl met the love of his life while working for a carnival. He loved to fish, hunt, camp, and to bowl, and attend the demolition derbies to watch his son-in-law and grandson perform. He could often be found on the dance floor or attending a rodeo. Most of all, Carl loved spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. He is survived by his children: Terry Watson (Patty), Kathy Smith (Kenny), Larry DeBrodie (Sherrie), Sharon Strope (Robert Moore), and Lisa Summers (John); numerous grandchildren, Jeffery, Helen, and Crystal of which he raised as his own, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and brother: Joe DeBrodie. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 62 years: Shirley; children: Robert DeBrodie, Carolyn Summers, Wanda DeBrodie, and infant sons Gary and Terry; grandchildren: Kimberly Bond, Carl DeBrodie, Kristen DeBrodie and Desiree Cochran; and siblings: Ed, Donald, Charlie and Frank DeBrodie and Emma Branch. Friends will be received from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, April 23, 2022, at Slater-Millard Family Funeral Chapel. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. with Pastor Raymond Lee officiating. Interment will be held at Longview Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, Barnes-Jewish Hospital, or to the Alzheimer's Association.
