Richard Edward Prenger Sr., 86, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 25, 2021, at his home. He was born on April 14, 1935, a son of the late Theodore and Helen (Bernskoetter) Prenger. He was united in marriage on June 8, 1957, in Wardsville, Missouri, to MaryAnn Derkum, who preceded him in death. Richard was a hard worker for all of his life. He spent the majority of his life as a millworker, building doors for many homes around town. He worked for Scruggs Lumber, American Building Products, and Glen Backes Cabinet Shop. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying deer hunting on the family farm, fishing, trapping and searching for mushrooms. You could often find him checking the cows or picking up pecans. Most of all, Richard cherished his time spent with his family, especially his grandchildren. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his children: Richard Prenger Jr. (Staci) of Wardsville, Dennis Prenger (Glenda) of Taos, JoAnn Essary (Bobby) of Jefferson City, James Prenger (Shannon) of Taos, Christy Feltrop (Darren) of Taos, Mark Prenger of Taos, and Jason Prenger (Theresa) of Taos; sisters: Clara Werdenhausen and Patsy Luebbering; sister-in-law: Bernice Benton; 16 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and numerous family and friends. Richard was preceded in death by his wife: MaryAnn; granddaughter: Tiffany Buechter; brothers: Harold and Fred Prenger; and daughter-in law: Rosemary Prenger. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 2, 2021, at the Knights of Columbus Hall in Taos with a prayer service at 3:45 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 3, 2021, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos with Fr. Michael Penn officiating. Interment will follow in St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be made to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church.
