David Francis Monnig, 70, of Jefferson City, passed away at his home on October 24, 2021, after a courageous fight with cancer since 2018. He was born on August 26, 1951, son of the late Francis and Pauline (Tebbe) Monnig. He was united in marriage to Cindy Johanning on January 31, 1970. Dave was a 1969 graduate of Glasgow High School. He worked for the Federal Government for over 30 years. After retirement from the Corps of Engineers, he served in numerous disaster recovery missions including Bridge City, Texas; Joplin, Mo.; Raleigh, N.C.; and Orlando, Fla. and met many friends along the way. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus. Dave fished as many days as he was able, especially on the Missouri River and at Bennett Spring, and shared a lot of pointers with family and friends when he was asked. You would see a smile sneak across his face every time he hooked a fish. Dave played basketball, baseball, softball and was an avid sports fan. He loved attending all kinds of athletic events and you never knew when he would show up to cheer on a niece or nephew or friend. His favorite thing to do was support and visit with family and friends and he made all of them feel special and unique by having sincere interest in their lives. David is survived by his loving wife of 51 years: Cindy; children: Nikki Monnig of Jefferson City and Trevor (Karen) Monnig of Jefferson City; and grandchildren: Zachary, Olivia, and Addison. He is also survived by his sisters: Helen Freese (Donald) and Linda Drummond (Billy Joe), and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Friends will be received from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, October 27, 2021, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 28, 2021, at St. Joseph Cathedral with Fr. Chris Cordes officiating. A time of fellowship and a luncheon will be held immediately following the mass in the Church Undercroft. Final prayers and interment will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October, 29, 2021, at Washington Cemetery in Glasgow, Missouri. All are invited to attend these gatherings.
