Paul Cletus Spicer, age 81, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Thursday, May 20, 2021, at Villa Marie Nursing Center. Paul was born on March 30, 1940, a son of Francis Marion and Helen Eloise Spicer. He was married on April 3, 1965, in Jefferson City, Mo., to Darla Jean Vache, who survives. A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Paul was a 1958 graduate of Jefferson City High School. He attended William Jewel University in Liberty, Mo. and served in the United States Army Reserves. Paul was employed through the State of Missouri for 30 years with the Food Stamp Administration until his retirement in 2002. Paul enjoyed being outdoors and was happiest when he had a fishing pole in his hand. He loved to barbecue and it was rumored that Paul had the "best ribs in town". He took pride in his property, was dedicated to keeping his yard looking nice and really enjoyed working outside. In their younger years, Paul and Darla spent many evenings on the dance floor and countless trips to explore the world, their favorites being the southern states of America. As they grew older, and Darla developed health complications, Paul remained devoted to her by taking on the role of caregiver. They were blessed to have a son, a granddaughter as well as great-grandchildren and Paul immensely enjoyed time spent with them. Survivors include: his loving wife of 56 years, Darla Spicer; one son, John Eric "Spike" Spicer of Russellville, Mo.; one brother, David Spicer (wife Sue) of Florida; one granddaughter, Tara Rae Curry; and four great-grandchildren, Austin Curry, Kole Curry, Josey Curry and Skyy Curry. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Spicer; and a sister-in-law, Dorthy Spicer. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., Thursday, May 27, 2021.
