Marie Edith "Mutz" Coulter, age 97, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully Sunday, March 14, 2021, at Capital Region Medical Center. Marie was born November 11, 1923, in St. Martins, Mo., a daughter of the late Theodore and Clara (Knernshield) Raithel. Marie married George Coulter on April 12, 1947, in Jefferson City, Mo. and he preceded her in death on August 22, 1974. She always said "We were blessed with three great kids: Dennis, David and Brenda." Marie attended schools in Centertown and Jefferson City graduating with the class of 1942. During World War II, Marie moved to Kansas City, Mo. and worked at Western Union. After staying home until her children were school age, Marie worked as a rate and billing clerk at Orschelen Truck Line, retiring in 1983. A member of Faith Lutheran Church, she was involved in the Heisinger Bluff Auxiliary, Ladies Guild, LLL, Lutheran Braille Workers and the Church Chronicle. She delivered Meals on Wheels for many years and was a Boy Scout and Girl Scout leader when her children were younger. During her free time, Marie enjoyed many years of playing cards, bingo, and attending church picnics with her friends. She loved to travel all over the United States and Ireland. She is survived by: one daughter, Brenda Wadlington (Rick) of Lake St. Louis, Mo.; two sons, Dennis Coulter (Terrie) of Springfield, Mo. and David Coulter (Donna) of Holts Summit, Mo.; six grandchildren, Evan Wadlington, Katie Junge (Kyle), Dennis "Buddy" Coulter II (Lane), Eric Coulter (Kim), Jennifer Jones (Bobby) and David "D.J." Coulter; nine great-grandchildren, Barrett and Mackenzie Junge, El and Lizzie Coulter, Noah and Emily Coulter, Lauren Thomlinson, Bren Jones and Riley Henderson; sister-in-law, Peggy Bryant, Lohman; two special friends at Heisinger Bluffs, Dorothy and Lehlia; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband of 27 years, George; four siblings, Helen Kuester (Paul), Ruth Powell (Gayle), Roy Raithel (Eleanor) and Harold Raithel (Agnes); a special aunt who was like a mother to her, Anna Bushman; and sister-in-law, Bessie Dean Vivion. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 12:00 p.m. until 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2021. The general public is welcome to attend the visitation while following social distancing guidelines. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 p.m., Friday, March 19, 2021, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Eric Gledhill officiating. Graveside services and interment will follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. A webcast of the funeral service will begin at 1:00 p.m. Friday for friends that are not able to attend by going to her memorial page on Freeman Mortuary's website.
