Luella Mae Oehring

Mrs. Luella Mae Oehring, age 93, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away peacefully on Monday, June 21, 2021, at River City Living Community. Mae was born on July 28, 1927, in Jasper, Arkansas, a daughter of Roy and Charlette (Amberg) Davison. She was married on June 30, 1946, in Neosho, Mo. to Fred Orbey Oehring, who preceded her in death on September 5, 1988. Mae graduated from Granby High School in 1945. After her children were in school, Mae went back and earned her Bachelor's and Master's Degrees in Education from Lincoln University. Mae spent the first part of her life as a homemaker and caretaker of her children. After she graduated, she became a Kindergarten teacher at South Callaway in Mokane, where she worked for 24 years until her retirement. Mae stayed very involved in her community. She was a member of the Missouri Retired Teachers Association, the St. Mary's Auxiliary, the American Business Women's Association, and she was a long-time member of First Christian Church. Mae was a past member of the Jefferson City Lioness Organization and the Cole County Extension Council. Mae had a very soft spot in her heart for children, whether that be her own, or the children that she taught. She had an unbelievable collection of Scholastic books. She had a passion for the education of children and she always gifted books with special notes to her students, children, and grandchildren. During her free time, Mae enjoyed quilting, knitting, and collecting depression glass. Mae had a very big heart and she was always willing to help others with 4-H projects and Lions Club Projects. She will be greatly missed by all. Survivors include: two sons, Mark Oehring (wife, Madelyn) of Springfield, Mo., and John Oehring (wife, Shirley) of Holts Summit, Mo.; four sisters; one brother; five grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Mae was preceded in death by her loving husband; her parents; two sisters; and three brothers. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 1:00 until 2:00 p.m., Saturday, June 26, 2021. A Celebration of Life will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Sarah Kingsbery officiating. Graveside services will be at Riverview Cemetery. A webcast of the service will begin at 1:45 p.m. Saturday for friends that are not able to attend by going to her memorial page on Freeman Mortuary's website.
