Rita Jeanne (Dorn) Miller

Rita Jeanne (Dorn) Miller, 96, of California, Mo., passed away on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at the Oak Tree Villas in Jefferson City, Mo. She was born on April 11, 1924 in California, Mo., the daughter of John A. Dorn and Mayme Pihale Dorn. Rita was a graduate of California High School in 1942. After graduation she attended St. Joseph Hospital School of Nursing in Kansas City, Mo. and graduated in September of 1945 as a registered nurse. She was a member of the Army Cadet Nursing Corps from 1943 1946. Rita was united in marriage to Howard Parker Miller on November 10, 1945 in California, Mo. at the Annunciation Catholic Church and was an Air Force wife for 20 years. She returned to California, Mo. in 1965 and was an Office Nurse for Dr. K.S. Latham until retiring in 1985. Rita was a member of the Annunciation Church and the VFW Auxiliary (past president). She was an avid card player and enjoyed crossword puzzles. Survivors include one daughter, Jane McGill (Jim) of California, Mo.; two sons, Clifford "Park" Miller (Janice) of San Angelo, Texas, Richard "Rick" Miller (Susan) of Warrensburg, Mo.; one sister-in-law, Marian Dorn of California, Mo.; eight grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and 12 great-great- grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one brother, John Dorn Jr.; one sister, Pat Jackson; one brother-in-law, Guy Jackson; and one great-great-grandchild. A visitation will be held on Friday, January 29, 2021, from 4:00 p.m. 6:00 p.m. at Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Home without family present. Per CDC guidelines social distancing and masks are suggested. Private Family Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the California Annunciation Catholic Church. Officiating will be Father James Finder. Burial will be at the Annunciation Catholic Cemetery. Memorials are suggested to the California Nutrition Center or California Annunciation Cemetery Fund, c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services, 100 S. Oak St., California, Mo.
