John Kurt Gulick, 80, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, December 9, 2021, at SSM St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. He was born December 6, 1941, in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to the late Kenneth and Jeanne (Arndt) Gulick. John was united in marriage to Barbara Lytle on April 5, 1975, in Merriam, Kansas. John was a 1959 graduate of Northeast High School in Kansas City, Missouri and received an associate's degree from Kansas City Junior College. He served in the United States Air Force (1962-1967) flying supplies into SE Asia during the Vietnam buildup. Much of John's career after the military was in plastic sales and sales management specializing in plastic sheeting and conversion for the printing and graphic arts industries. He owned his own business, Plasticon, in Kansas City for a number of years. Throughout his life, John had a strong faith and was active in several churches serving in various capacities including teaching children and adult Sunday School, serving as deacon, elder and leading youth mission/work trips throughout the country. After moving to mid-Missouri, John completed a certificate in pastoral ministry at the Missouri School of Religion. He served as associate minister of Dixie Christian Church in Callaway County, served supply positions throughout the region, and assisted Barbara in her ministry at Millersburg Christian Church. John maintained memberships at both Millersburg Christian Church in Fulton and First Christian Church, Jefferson City in his retirement. In 2009 John was humbled to receive the Volunteer of the Year Award from Central Missouri Community Action. John had a lifelong love of music, playing guitar in a jazz band in earlier years. John cherished his family, doted on his grandchildren, adored his wife, and was very proud of their 47 year marriage. John is survived by his wife, Barbara; daughter, Stefanie Brown of Topeka, Kan.; sister, Linda Puckett (Don) of Kansas City; brother-in-law, Jim Lytle (Laurie Irwin) of Loveland, Colo.; daughter-in-law, Andrea Gulick of St. Louis; grandchildren: Chester Hubbard, Kiwenke Hubbard, Jackson Gulick; and nieces, nephews, and many friends. He was preceded in death by his son, John D. Chip Gulick; and his daughter, Jennifer Marie Brown. Friends will be received from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m., Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Jefferson City. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, December 18, 2021, at the Millersburg Christian Church with interment following in the Millersburg Cemetery. Additional visitation will follow at the church. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Millersburg Christian Church or First Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Jefferson City.
