Betty Hammond

Betty Jane Hammond, 84, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Saturday, December 11, 2021, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born on January 8, 1937, in Cole County, a daughter of the late Lawrence and Margaret (Wilbers) Heimericks-Gerber. She was united in marriage on June 18, 1955, to Edward Hammond at St. Peter Catholic Church. She was a 1955 graduate of St. Peter High School. Betty worked at Chesebrough Ponds from 1967 until her retirement in 1992. Betty began employment with the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services and retired in 1997. She enjoyed playing cards, fishing and dancing. For many years she volunteered her time at the local DAV, where she also played a lot of bingo. She was an excellent cook and try as they may, her daughters-in-law can't quite replicate her dishes. Betty's greatest joy was spending time with her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sister. She will be greatly missed. She is survived by her sons, Daryl Hammond (Kathy), Steven Hammond, Donald Hammond (Laura) and Larry Hammond (Rachel); sister, Dorothy Brauner; grandchildren, Dustin Hammond (Nikki), Dale Hammond, Kelly Henry (Russell), Jessica George (Wesley), Holly Yancy (Michael), Eddie Hammond (Emily) and Lauren Hammond; seven great-grandchildren; step-sons, Kevin Findley, Keith Findley, Brandon Findley, Bobby Findley and Russell Findley; 14 step-grandchildren; five step-great-grandchildren and two due in January; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Betty was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Edward Hammond; significant other, Robert Findley; step-father, Christopher Gerber Sr.; step-brother, Christopher Gerber Jr.; daughter-in-law, Donna Hammond; and brother-in-law, Hubert Brauner. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 16, 2021, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with prayer service beginning at 4:15 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be on Friday, December 17, 2021, at St. Peter Catholic Church at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Jeremy Secrist officiating. Burial will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 17.
