Stacey Shavonne Brown, age 34, of Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Sunday, August 8, 2021, at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital due to complications from COVID. Stacey was born on May 18, 1987, in Chicago Heights, Ill., a daughter of Jesse James Brown and Amelda Belinda McCray. Stacey grew up in Sauk Village, Ill. and was a 2005 graduate from Bloom Trail High School. Stacey later moved to Jefferson City, Mo. to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in Liberal Arts at Lincoln University, where she graduated in 2014. After college, she began her career working for Compass Health in Jefferson City as a Mental Health Specialist and later became an Integrated Health Specialist. These positions fit her uplifting personality well because she was responsible to find resources for people who needed housing or help within our community. She truly loved helping others and trying to make a difference in their lives. Stacey was fond of her co-workers and enjoyed spending time with them. Stacey's life revolved around her family and she relished time spent with them. She enjoyed cooking where she made family events and holidays more special, especially when she had the opportunity to throw themed birthday parties. Stacey also liked binge watching Netflix with her sister, going on road trips and traveling to different states. Stacey will always be known as a very positive person who made the most out of every day. Her laugh was loud and infectious and will be missed most by those who loved her. Stacey is lovingly survived by: her mother, Amelda McCray of Chicago, Ill.; one sister, Linda Brown of Jefferson City, Mo.; life partner, Jay Barnes Wilcox of St. Louis, Mo.; cousin, Seimone Jones of Mississippi; God-mother, Debra Jackson of Monee, Ill.; God-son, Bryson Sieber of St. Louis, Mo.; best friends, Steven Nwugo, Evon Miller and Shenise Williams; and a host of other relatives. She loved taking care of her sister's dog, Pearson. Stacey was preceded in death by her father, Jesse James Brown. Visitation will be held at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021. Funeral services will be conducted at 12:00 p.m. Saturday, August 21, 2021, in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend Cornell C. Sudduth Sr. officiating. A webcast of Stacey's service will begin at 12:00 p.m. Saturday for friends that are not able to attend by going to her memorial page on Freeman Mortuary's website.
