Daniel T. Smith

Daniel T. Smith, 78, of Marion, Mo., passed away at his home on Wednesday, September 9, 2020. He was born on November 16, 1941, in St. Louis City, Mo., the son of Leonard and Helen (Taggart) Smith, both of whom preceded him in death. Daniel served in the U.S. Army as a Green Beret First Sergeant and served in the Vietnam War. He was united in marriage on November 29, 1992, in Hot Springs, Ark. to Dana E. Smith of whom preceded him in death on May 28, 2012. Daniel worked as a rail supervisor for Union Pacific Railroad. He was an avid coin collector. He also enjoyed model trains, airplanes, and was a huge St. Louis Cardinals baseball fan. Survivors include three sons, Wayne Cleveland of Tipton, Mo., Louis Finigan of Columbia, Mo., Richard Finigan of Jefferson City, Mo.; two daughters, Krista Ashbrook of St. Petersburg, Fla., Terri Kroeger and her husband David of the home; seven grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. A Graveside Service with full military honors will be held on Tuesday, September 15, 2020, at 10:00 a.m. at the Old Marion Cemetery. Officiating will be Rev. Stephen Bickel. Memorials are suggested to D.A.V. c/o the funeral home. Arrangements are under the direction of Bowlin-Cantriel Funeral Services.
