John D. Luter, 65, of Jefferson City, died Thursday, October 8, 2020, at his home. He was born August 10, 1955, in St. Louis, Missouri, a son of Richard R. and Henrietta M. (Montgomery) Luter. He was a 1973 graduate of Fort Zumwalt North High School in O'Fallon and graduated in 1987 from Columbia College in Columbia, Missouri, with an Associate of Science degree in Criminal Justice. In 1979, John became a law enforcement officer, working for several departments in central Missouri until 1992. From 1995 to the present, he owned and operated his own courier and delivery business. He enjoyed spending time with his family, woodworking, fishing and visiting the California beach. On January 26, 1974, in Troy, Missouri, John was united in marriage to Susan A. Samons, who survives at their home. Other survivors include his mother: Henrietta Luter of St. Charles; two children: Stephen Luter (Alisa Vojvoda) of Las Vegas, Nevada, Dianne Owalla (Evans) of San Diego, California; two brothers: David (Diane) Luter of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, Richard J. (Lisa) Luter of Wright City; three grandchildren: Devin Owalla, Alexis Owalla, Olivia Luter; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Richard R. Luter; brother, Richard M. Luter; and sister, Debbie Doty. Friends will be received from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, October 14, 2020, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home, where funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family of John Luter.
