Winiford Jerome Ray Lewis

Winiford Jerome Ray Lewis, 78, of Taos, passed away Sunday, November 22, 2020, at Capital Region Medical Center. He was born September 10, 1942, in St. Louis, Missouri, the son of the late Chester and Launa (Juergens) Lewis. Winiford was a 1960 graduate of Vienna High School. He served his country in the United States Navy from July 18, 1960 until his honorably discharge on August 27, 1963. He was united in marriage on July 25, 1964, in Freeburg, Missouri to Doris Helen Pope, who survives at the home. Winiford served as a police officer for over 33 years with the St. Louis Police Department and the Jefferson City Police Department. He was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos where he participated with the Contemporary Choir, was a member of the American Legion, and was a life-time member of the NRA. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards, and traveling. Survivors include his wife, Doris Lewis, Taos; two sons, Jerome (Nicole) Lewis, Imperial, Mo. and Douglas (Angie) Lewis, Chickasha, Okla.; six grandchildren, Shelby Lewis, Abigail Lewis, Joshua Lewis, Maureen (Robert) Fletcher, Madeline Lewis, Lily Lewis; and one brother, Robert Lewis, Dixon, Mo. He was preceded in death by his parents. Private family visitation will be 10-11 a.m., Friday, November 27, 2020, at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church in Taos. Private family Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church with the Rev. Michael Penn officiating. Military honors will follow the Mass.
