Paul Simon Bax

Paul Simon Bax, age 68, of St. Elizabeth, passed away on Friday, July 24, 2020, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born in Jefferson City on December 16, 1951, son of the late Emil John and Bernadine Emma (Boessen) Bax. On April 27, 1985, Paul married Martha Otto, who survives at their home. Paul graduated from St. Elizabeth R-IV in the spring of 1971 and was drafted into the Army later that fall. He honorably served in the United States Army and was released from active duty on October 31, 1973. Paul worked for Ray Bax Construction and Ken Otke Construction. He enjoyed being outdoors working on the farm, pheasant hunting, fishing and spending time with his family. Paul was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth. In addition to his loving wife, Martha Bax, he is also survived by one son, Adam Bax (Beth); one daughter, Abby Berhorst (Daniel); five grandchildren, Owen and Emersyn Bax, Hailey, Bentley, and Ellie Berhorst; four brothers, Gerald Bax (Donna), Randy Bax (Elizabeth "Liz"), Melvin Bax (Doris), and Michael "Mike" Bax; two sisters, Patricia Redel (Ed) and Karen Otto (John); mother-in-law, Christine Otto; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Callie Berhorst; and brother, Wayne Bax. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church in St. Elizabeth with Fr. Joby Thomas officiating. Interment with military honors will be in St. Lawrence Cemetery. Those attending Mass are required to wear facial coverings. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m., on Monday, July 27, at the St. Elizabeth Community Center. Memorial contributions are suggested to the Paul Bax Memorial Fund. Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in St. Elizabeth.
