Vernon Leroy Nesheim

Vernon Leroy Nesheim, age 88, of Jefferson City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. He was born January 13, 1932, to Ernest Nesheim and Helen (Muenkler) Nesheim. He was a graduate of Washington High School in 1951. He then joined the armed forces, serving as a U.S. Marine in the Korean War. After the war, he was honorably discharged as a Sergeant and went on to attend and received his BA degree from the University of Sioux Falls, South Dakota in 1963. He married Nancy Johnsonbaugh on February 29, 1964, in Sioux Falls, S.D. He took a career position as an insurance claims adjuster for Shelter Insurance, where he spent 25+ years. After retiring from Shelter Insurance, he continued to work as a catastrophe claims adjuster for Ozark Claims Service and other carriers, that had him travel to various states for over 10 years until finally retiring for good. Vern was a member of Optimist Club in Jefferson City, Mo. He enjoyed bowling, golfing, shooting pool and barbequing. He was a master of smoked turkey and briskets and loved carpentry. He most enjoyed spending time with his wife, family and all the grandkids. He was preceded in death by both parents, Ernest and Helen; his two brothers, Eugene Nesheim, Ron Nesheim and a sister, Delores Robar. He is survived by his devoted wife of 56 years, Nancy Nesheim; son, Michael Nesheim; daughter, Nicole Nickens; son, Tyler Nesheim; daughter, Jonni Wright; daughter, Gina Frank; daughter, Darcy Nesheim; daughter, Maria Nesheim and 20 beautiful grandchildren. Private Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Cathedral of St. Joseph Catholic Church, 2215 W Main Street, Jefferson City, MO, 65109 on Friday, December 18, 2020, with Msgr. Robert A. Kurwicki officiating. Interment with full military honors will be at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. If desired, friends and family may make memorial contributions to Nathan Adelson Hospice; nah.org .
