Stephyn David Mathis, newborn infant, passed peacefully in the arms of his loving parents on Saturday, December 5, 2020, at Barnes-Jewish Hospital, St. Louis, Missouri. Stephyn was born December 5, 2020, at 7:31 a.m., in St. Louis, Missouri, weighing in at five pounds, 10 ounces, and was 17 inches long. Stephyn was the son of Madison Marie Block and John David Mathis Jr., of Wardsville, Missouri. Stephyn blessed his family with a lifetime of love during his short time on earth and he will remain in their hearts forever. Stephyn experienced holding hands with his mommy and daddy, countless hugs and kisses, and hearing the words "I love you" too numerous to count. Stephyn made an impact on the lives of hundreds of his prayer warriors with whom he connected on his Facebook page, "Stephyn's Story." He was loved deeply by all who knew him. Most importantly, he felt the endless love of his family. He is survived by his mother and father, Madison Block and John Mathis; four siblings, Eli Routon, Montana Routon, Graycen Mathis, and Paisley Mathis; his maternal grandparents, Jerry and Libby Block; great-grandmother, Kay Bode; and great-grandparents, Richard and Ann Block, all of St. Martins; aunts and uncles, Devin and Nicole Block of Ashland, Amber Block of Taos, Justin and Katie Mathis of Versailles, Marissa Wood of California, and Jayce Mathis of Warsaw; loving cousins, Lexi Stark, Anniston Block, Laethen Block, Griffin Block, Arynn Mathis, Klayre Mathis, and Elyse Mathis; and many other family and friends. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, John David Mathis Sr., and his paternal grandmother, Kathyrn Richeal (Kat) Mathis, who is now holding Stephyn gently in her heavenly arms. Stephyn also was preceded in death by his great-grandmother, Anna Marie Kitchens Block, and great-grandfather, Stephen Frederick Bode, his namesake; great-great-grandparents, Fred Frank and Esther Mary Scheppers Bode, Charles Gentry and Helen Elizabeth Mapel Bryan. Family and friends will be received Tuesday, December 15, 2020, from 4 - 6 p.m. at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday, December 16, 2020, 10 a.m., at St. Martin Catholic Church, with the Reverend Jason Doke officiating. Interment will follow at the new St. Martin Catholic Church Cemetery.
