Glendon Southard, 89, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 10, 2020, at his home. He was born in Safe, Missouri on September 5, 1931, a son of the late Fred L. Southard and Irma Alara (Clark) Southard. He was united in marriage on December 9, 1950, to Bernadine Broccard. Glendon attended school in Safe, Missouri. In July of 1952, he entered into the United States Army to serve his county in Korea where he spent one year, four months, and 10 days. After his service in the Army, Glendon began his career in the auto industry at Lee Way Trucking, where he worked for five years. Glendon worked for Schanzmeyer Ford for three years before he and his brother, Fred, founded their own company, S+S Auto Service. He owned and operated his business alongside his brother for 35 years before retiring. Glendon wasn't ready to retire just yet, so he worked another 10 years at Enterprise Car Rental. Glendon was an avid outdoorsman. He enjoyed going to the river and fishing, as well as hunting. He also liked going to the casino and traveling. He was able to pass along his love for the great outdoors to his son, Robert, through countless experiences in the woods and on the water. He is survived by his wife: Bernadine Southard; son: Robert Southard; brother: Fred Southard (Dorthea); and his two sisters: Cleta Kintner (Ed) and Sharon Brown. Glendon was preceded in death by his parents; and three brothers: Harold, Roy "Art", and James Southard. Friends will be received from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Monday, December 14, 2020, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, December 14, 2020, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with Rev. Dr. Monte Shinkle officiating. Interment will follow at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens in Jefferson City. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the family of Glendon Southard.
