Betty J. Smith

Betty J. Smith, 82, of Portland, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2019. She was born on August 2, 1937, in Harviell, Missouri to the late Elmer Burpo and the late Eugenia (Payne) Burpo. On March 8, 1973, Betty married Richard K. Smith. He preceded her in death on August 29, 2016. Betty was a member of Pleasant Hill Free Methodist Church. For many years she served as a friendly Avon and Tupperware sales representative. She enjoyed being outdoors, camping, and trout fishing. She and Richard were charter members of Good Sam and Coachman Clubs. Betty also enjoyed crocheting and going to the casino. She will be missed by sons, Jerry McGonigal (Suzanne) of Portland, Clifton McGonigal (Josie) of Steedman, Donald McGonigal (Kristy) of Holts Summit, Richard K. Smith Jr. (Connie) of California, Allen Smith (Vicki) of California, Steve Smith (Michelle) of Fairmont, Mont., and Danny Smith (Cecily) of Fountain Inn, S.C.; daughters, Brenda Haar of Bloomer, Wis., and Diane Locke (John) of Fulton; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by daughter, Angela Rustemeyer; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 12, 2019, at Maupin Funeral Home in Fulton with Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. Friends will be received from 12:00 p.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Portland.
