Treva Lacetta Williams, age 98, of Tipton, Missouri, passed away on Tuesday, October 22, 2019, at home. Treva was born March 12, 1921 to John Morris and Maggie Verlina Powell in Arlington, Colorado. She was one of seven children. Treva's grandparents were immigrants from Wales in the early 1860's settling in Pennsylvania. Her grandfather was a cannon operator during the Civil War serving in the Union Army. Treva's father, John, was born in 1874 and unfortunately lost his father in a mining accident when he was only seven years old. He and his siblings were sent from Pennsylvania on the Orphan Train shortly after his mother passed away. John found his new home in Kansas while his siblings were all sent elsewhere. Treva's father eventually moved to Colorado, and he and his bride, Maggie and their children, including Treva, moved to Tipton, Missouri in the early 1930's. Treva loved dancing and met Vernon Forest Williams at a dance. Vernon never really cared to dance but truly enjoyed watching Treva. She especially liked to clog and continued to dance through her life, even after marrying Vernon on November 30, 1944 and surprisingly, at the age of 94, could still cut a rug. Treva worked as a sewing machine operator when she was younger at the Tipton Manufacturing Company. When she and Vernon started their family, Treva gave all her energies toward raising her son and daughter. As a homemaker, Treva excelled in cooking, sewing and gardening. For years, she and Vernon canned the produce from their garden. When Treva was 70 years old, she got her chauffer's license to help Vernon in their gravel truck and backhoe business. She drove the gravel truck and was still driving that truck when she was 90 years old, though she just traveled from the creek to the loading point by then. The couple shared a long life together, just short of 73 years when Vernon passed away November 28, 2017. Those surviving Treva L. Williams are her son, Bobby Wayne Williams of Tipton, Missouri and Rita Sue Williams-Harrison of Eldon, Missouri. Preceding Treva L. Williams in death are her husband, Vernon; parents, John and Maggie Powell; brothers, Delmore and George Powell; sisters, Minnie Powell Glasnapp, Edna Powell, Evelyn Powell Gillis and a young sister, Susan Powell; brothers-in-law, Frank Glasnapp and Hugh Gillis; sisters-in-law, Dollie Jewell Powell and Josephine Powell; son-in-law, Mikel Harrison. A funeral service for Treva Lacetta Powell Williams will be at 2:00 p.m., Sunday, October 27, 2019 at Meisenheimer Funeral Home in Tipton, Missouri, with burial immediately following at the Masonic Cemetery, also in Tipton. Visitation will begin at 1:00 p.m. prior to the funeral service. Memorials are suggested to Hospice Compassus. Online condolences may be submitted at www.meisenheimerfuneralhome.com.
