Larry Eugene "Peanuts" Marcum, 75, of Jefferson City, passed away Tuesday, May 28, 2019 at his home, after a long battle with cancer. He was born August 16, 1943 to the late Aileen Voight and Sam Marcum in California. When Larry was three years old his mother married Vince Manly, who helped raise him. Larry attended Catholic school through his elementary years and graduated from California High School. He was confirmed in the Catholic faith at Annunciation Catholic Church in California. When he was little, he was a caddy at the local golf course, his wage was paid in peanuts and soda. That's how he came by his nickname of "Peanuts". As an adult, he was a laborer in the Jefferson City and Columbia area for 33 years and a proud member of the 662 and 995 Laborers Union. After retiring he and Larry Foreman, opened a small shop in Gravois Mills called "Larry's" where they worked on small motors and lawn equipment. Larry enjoyed playing pool, spoiling his dog, Chi-Chi, and dancing, especially to the Jolly Brothers. He owned the bar The Blue Ribbon Inn in Eugene. He and a friend also trained and showed walking horses. He loved boating and playing at the Lake with his grandkids. Survivors include his wife: Wanda of Jefferson City; daughters: Tammy (Tim) Kaiser of Holts Summit; Terri (Bill) Kempker of Jefferson City; son-in-law: Brian Lee of Columbia; brother: Wayne (Beth) Manly of Clark; grandchildren: Tara Kaiser of Jefferson City, Rebecca (Shane) Miner of Joplin, Rachel Lee of Novi, Mich. and Sarah Lee of Columbia; great- grandchildren: Kamryn Stone of Jefferson City, Isaiah and Hannah Miner of Joplin; half-sister: Teresa Spire of Boonville, step-sister: Beverly Linhart of Boonville; two half-brothers: Sammy Marcum of New Franklin and Richard Marcum of New Franklin. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers: Alvin Marcum and Lester Marcum; two half-brothers: Mike and Rusty Marcum: and step-daughter: Rhonda Lee. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2019, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2019 at Houser-Millard Funeral Home with interment following at Annunciation Catholic Cemetery in California. Expressions of sympathy may be made to Goldschmidt Cancer Center or Chapman Animal Clinic for those who need assistance paying their veterinarian bills.
