Samuel L. Patterson

Samuel L. Patterson, 59, of California, Missouri, passed away Monday, May 6, 2019 at Capital Region Medical Center, Jefferson City, Missouri. He was born on May 11, 1959, in Jefferson City, Missouri to Carlos "Pat" and Mary "Mary Lou" (Yancey) Patterson. In 1977, Sam graduated from Jefferson City High School, where he participated in JROTC. In July of 1977, Sam enlisted in the US Army attaining the rank Sergeant First Class, retiring after 25 years of service. Sam met his Queen B, Maribeth Washburn, in 1990 at the Cole County Fairground's Camp Wonderland Dunking Booth. They were married July 1, 1995. Currently, Sam was employed with the State of Missouri Work Force Development and worked part-time for 15 years at Auto Zone in Jefferson City. He was a MOPAR enthusiast-owning a 1977 Dodge Warlock, 1972 Dodge Duster, and 1974 Dodge Dart Swinger. He was baptized at Main Street Baptist Church, currently a member of Centertown Baptist Church. Sam was a kind, gentle man who helped anyone. His family and friends will miss his myriad of jokes and his laughter. Sam was a very proud father and also a proud Papa. His outgoing nature made family events fun, interesting and entertaining. Sam was a true patriot, loving God and Country and was dedicated to helping veterans. Along with his wife and mother, Sam is survived by two children, Andrew Geiser (Lisa) of Chillicothe, Mo. and Andelyn Wright (Dustin) of Alma, Ark.; six grandchildren, Ellah, Ellyse, David, Emylia, Elijah, and Everly; one sister, Cynthia "Cindy" Surface of Jefferson City, Mo.; his father-in-law, Nelson Washburn; a sister-in-law, Gwen Kirby (Joe) of California, Mo.; and several nieces and nephews. Along with his father, Sam was preceded in death by his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Washburn. The family will receive friends at Windmill Ridge Funeral Service on Saturday, May 11, 2019, from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m., with memorial services following with Rev. Stephan Bickel officiating.
