Harvey E. Idel, 75, of Camdenton, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away on Wednesday, March 27, 2019, at the University of Kansas Health System, in Kansas City, Kansas. He was born on March 27, 1944, a son of Harvey and Arilla (Branhorst) Idel. On May 9, 1964, he was married to Doris Castaldi, who survives at the home. Harvey attended Jefferson City High School and Lincoln University. He played both baseball and basketball for JCHS and basketball while attending LU. He started working as a salesman for James Motors in 1977. In 1986, he moved to Mike Kehoe Ford where he retired in 2011. Harvey enjoyed playing golf, visiting the ocean and was an avid St. Louis Cardinals fan. Harvey was very active with fast pitch softball leagues and coached many kids in the American Legion and Little League baseball programs. Along with his wife of 54 years, Doris, he is survived by his son: Mark Idel (Tonya) of Pleasant Hill; brother: Stan Idel; grandchildren: Tyler Idel, Toni Cantrell (Jake), Trent Idel, Kenady Evans and Brock Evans; and one great-grandchild: Bodie Cantrell. Harvey was preceded in death by his daughter: Amy Idel Evans and sister: June Rackers. Friends will be received from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 30, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors with a 3:15 p.m. Prayer Service. Private Graveside Services will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to the American Legion Baseball Program.
