John Henry "Jack" Sturm, 85, of Jefferson City, died Saturday, January 26, 2019, at his residence. He was born on January 21, 1934, in Jefferson City, the son of the late Henry Otto Sturm and Juliet Catherine Skain Sturm. He was married on September 29, 1956, in Jefferson City to Colleen D. Slaughter, who survives at the home. Jack was a 1951 graduate of Saint Peter High School and attended Jefferson City Junior College. After service in New Mexico with the United States Army from 1956 to 1958, he was employed for 37 years as a conductor with the Union Pacific Railroad until his retirement. Jack was a member of Saint Peter Catholic Church and enjoyed many interests and hobbies including history, politics, reading, model railroading, making homemade ice cream, and spending time with his children and grandchildren. Other survivors include four children, Kim Pannell, Russellville, Missouri; Kayla (Marc) Bubert, Washington, Illinois; Lori (Mitch) Odneal, Jefferson City; and Matt (Vevia) Sturm, Jefferson City; eight grandchildren, Aaron Munson, Angel Moscato, Nicholas Kisling, Megan Kisling, Courtney Pannell, Brent Newberry, and Celena Billingsley, and Hannah Taggart; 14 great-grandchildren; one sister, Margie Trainor, Columbia, Missouri; and one brother, Tom (Debra) Sturm, Peoria, Illinois. He was preceded in death by one sister, Ann Knollmeyer. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home with a prayer service at 3:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Callaway Hills Animal Shelter, 2714 State Road TT, New Bloomfield, MO 65063.
