Raymond Groner, age 87, of St. Thomas, passed away on Wednesday, January 23, 2019, at Oak Tree Villas in Jefferson City. He was born in St. Thomas on July 29, 1931, son of the late Simon Henry and Christine (Wieberg) Groner. On July 10, 1954, in St. Anthony, Raymond married Bernadine Emma Otto, who preceded him in death on March 10, 2014. In 1961, Raymond and his brother Clem opened Groner's Garage in St. Thomas. By 1963, Raymond went on his own and operated Groner's Garage until 1989 when his sons took over. He was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. He is survived by three sons, Mike Groner and wife Debbie, Jerry Groner and wife Barbara, and Jim Groner; seven grandchildren, Wendy Sullivan, Blake Groner, Vicky Buckner, Beth Groner, Emily Groner, Mary Groner, and Lucy Groner; four great-grandchildren; one sister, Odelia Schmidt; two brothers, Clem Groner and Art Groner; and several nieces, nephews, family and friends. In addition to his parents and wife, he was also preceded in death by one son, Andrew Groner and one sister, Rita Otto. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, January 26, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church with Fr. Jeremy Secrist officiating. Interment will be held in St. Thomas Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., with a prayer service at 4 p.m., on Friday, January 25, at St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions are suggested to St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church. Arrangements are under the direction of Fancher-Rekus Funeral Home in Meta.
