Kathryn Elizabeth Waite, 92, died peacefully on Friday, February 15, 2019, with her daughter at her side in her home at Village Shalom in Overland Park, Kan. Kathryn lived a wonderful life. She loved two great men, had a family who adored her, and had many dear friends. Kathryn, the daughter of Elsie Maude Crane and Otto Bell, was born on November 7, 1926. She grew up in Eldon, Mo. with her mother and loving step-father Elmont "Jack" Allee. Kathryn and John Bauer were married in 1957. They spent 15 happy years together in Jefferson City. Kathryn supported John in his career and numerous civic endeavors. They blended their families, raising three daughters and a son. John died in 1973. Kathryn married Gene Waite in 1987. They lived in Eldon, Mo. Gene shared with her his love for travel, farming and gin rummy. They again blended families and shared a full and beautiful life together for the next 10 years. Gene died in 1997. Kathryn was involved in her communities. She was active in numerous organizations and had leadership roles in many. She was a dedicated gift shop volunteer at Capital Region Medical Center and a 60-year member of the Central United Church of Christ. A passionate bridge player, Kathryn nurtured friendships that spanned decades through her love of the game. Those left to honor Kathryn's memory include her children, Jennifer Collet, Janet Bauer, Jeff Bauer, Mike Waite, Jeff Waite and 11 grandchildren. Kathryn shared a special bond with grandchildren, Katharine, Spencer and Nelson Collet and most especially granddaughter Julie Anderson, who made her final year in Jefferson City possible. Preceding Kathryn in death were her husbands, John Bauer and Gene Waite and her beloved daughter, Jacquelyn Howser Johnson. Family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 28, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Chapel. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, March 1, 2019, at the Houser-Millard Funeral Chapel in Jefferson City with Rev. Steve Bucholz officiating. Inurnment is private for the family at Riverview Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would warmly welcome contributions to Village Shalom where Kathryn thrived during the last year of her life.
