Betty Jo Leonard

Betty Jo Leonard, 88, of Jefferson City, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2019. She was born on October 22, 1931, in Jefferson City, Missouri, a daughter of Herman and Eloise (Hopen) Sturm. Betty was a 1949 graduate of St. Peter's High School. After graduation she began a career working for the State of Missouri, which spanned 25 years. She was an avid bridge player and spent many an afternoon with her bridge club at Hy-Vee. Betty also enjoyed knitting and photography. She is survived by her husband: Melvin of the home; step-children: Jennifer Plochberger (Wilfred) of Jefferson City, Joyce Schaefferkoetter (Vic) of Jefferson City, and Doug Pavitt (Patti), of Jefferson City; one brother: Steve Sturm (Bernadine) of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; step-grandchildren: Victor and Justin Schaefferkoetter, Eric Koestner, Kurt Pavitt, Laura Koestner and Amy Connor; and nephew: Chris Sturm. Betty was preceded in death by her parents, and husbands: Eddie Plogsted and David Pavitt. Friends will be received from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, February 25, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors, with Prayer Service to begin at 4:30 p.m. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 26, 2019, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, with Fr. Don Antwieler officiating. Entombment will follow in Resurrection Cemetery. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the American Cancer Society.
