Peter Newquist, 96, of Jefferson City died peacefully on Tuesday, February 1, 2019, at Primrose Retirement Center. Peter was born on September 29, 1922 in Minneapolis, Minn. to John P. and Alma (Winden) Newquist. After serving as a torpedo bomber pilot in World War II, he graduated from Western Michigan University and Indiana University. After serving as a special agent for the FBI, Peter worked as Chief of Security Operations for Bendix Corporation in Kansas City. He was hired as assistant to the Mayor of Kansas City focusing on equal employment opportunity issues prior to becoming a Vice President of Commerce Bank. He served as a lobbyist in Jefferson City where he lived with his wife, Mary Gant Newquist, enjoying raising cattle and collecting and selling antiques. Peter is survived by his wife, Mary; his son, David (Pat) Newquist; his two daughters, Kathryn Davolos and Leslie Newquist; one step-daughter, Peggy Manes; one step-son, Mark (Linda) Dearing; eight grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and two great great-grandchildren. Peter was preceded in death by his sister, Gloria; his first wife; and one step-son, Phil Dearing. Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019 at First Presbyterian Church, 324 Madison Street, Jefferson City, MO 65109. Memorial Service will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, February 16, 2019, First Presbyterian Church. Interment will be private for the family.
