Connie Marie (Petet) Humphrey, 71, of Eldon, Missouri, passed, from this life into the presence of her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Monday evening, January 28, 2019, in her home, surrounded by loved ones, after a 17-month battle with cancer. Connie was born in Niangua, Webster County, Missouri, the sixth of nine children to Cleveland Francis "Bud" Petet and Mamie "Grace" (Crawford) Petet on December 9, 1947. She attended school in Webster County during her early years until her family moved to Miller County. There she continued her education at the Vernon School House until it closed, and later graduated from Eldon High School in 1968. Connie married Larry Donald Humphrey Sr., on October 31, 1964, at the Rocky Mount Baptist Church. In 1969, she and Larry purchased the home of her maternal grandfather, William Elmore Crawford, in Etterville, Missouri, where she lived for most of the remainder of her life. She worked as a Bell Telephone Company Switchboard Operator when Bell Telephone was located upstairs in what is now the AT&T Building in Eldon, Missouri, and also worked with her brother Bill at Von Hoffman Press in Jefferson City. She spent the majority of her career working for the State of Missouri as a switchboard operator, then worked for the Missouri Department of Revenue where she retired from the Excise Taxation Department. Connie studied at the Missouri School of Ministry with the Assemblies of God in Springfield, Missouri. She was a board member and volunteer counselor at the Center for Woman's Ministries in Jefferson City. She was a long-standing member at First Assembly of God in Jefferson City, where she served as Angel Tree Coordinator, Sunday School Teacher, Joy Ministries Leader, women's ministries team member, and volunteer counselor in the women's ministries. She also served with the Rape and Abuse Crisis Center in Jefferson City. Connie's interests included spending time with her family, participating in church activities, gardening, and serving in a wide variety of ministry positions. She loved spending time with her family and was especially devoted to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Connie was preceded in death by her ex-husband Larry Humphrey, her siblings Joyce Curtis, Bill Petet, Mary Kay Beard, Tom Petet, Ron Petet, and her parents Bud Petet and Grace Petet. Connie is survived by her four children, Debbie (Mike) Bunner of Farmington, Donnie (Darci) Humphrey of Naples, Italy, Dail Humphrey of Farmington, and Tony (Angie) Humphrey of Eldon; by her siblings, Jean Sisul of Osage Beach, Don (Billie) Petet of Meridian, Idaho, and Ilene Clark of Eldon; by 11 grandchildren, Paige (Chris) Mata of Chicago, Illinois, Carey (Krista) Humphrey of Linn Creek, Denny (Marla) Humphrey of Eldon, Josh Humphrey of Columbia, Drew and Drake Humphrey of Naples, Italy, Courtney (Michael) Humphrey of Eldon, Danielle Humphrey of Eldon, Kaitlin (Joe) Smith of Fredericktown, Gabrielle (Anthony) Humphrey of Jefferson City, and Hailee Humphrey of Osage Beach; and by 13 great-grandchildren, Ayana, Blake, Fayla, Nevaeh, Makayla, Keegan, Gene Cole, Kayleigh, Jody, Larrelle, Fayunna, Aubrielle, and AKia; and by numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members. Connie's most important life message was that we are eternal beings, accountable to a loving God, and she wanted this message shared at her parting from this world. She knew that leaving this physical world meant entry to Heaven, reuniting with family and friends who preceded her, and meeting her Savior, Jesus Christ. It was her utmost desire and only prayer request during her last months that her family be impacted positively by the life example she set, and follow in His footsteps. She leaves an invitation to join her church family at First Assembly, in Jefferson City. The family of Connie Humphrey wishes to extend sincere thanks to Dr. Shadi Haddadin and his staff at JCMG, Compassus Hospice, and her church family at First Assembly of God, all of Jefferson City, as well as extended family members and friends. Prayer support and acts of kindness have been so deeply appreciated. Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 2, 2019, at First Assembly of God in Jefferson City, with Pastor Lowell Perkins officiating. Family and friends are invited to share their thoughts and memories. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the Center for Women's Ministries, 3405 Knipp Drive, in Jefferson City, Missouri 65109, (573) 659-8278.
