John David Hollaway, 65, of Jefferson City, passed away on Monday, April 22, 2019, at his home. He was born on November 5, 1953, in Chicago, Illinois, a son of Lee Thomas and Marcella Margaret (Wimmer) Hollaway. John graduated in 1972 from Helias Catholic High School where he was inducted in the National Honor Society. He earned a Masters in English and Creative Writing from the University of Missouri-Columbia and a Doctorate from the University of Missouri-St. Louis. John was on the Deans List every year while he attended college. He served as the Director for March of Dimes for many years. John was a distinguished Professor at the University of Missouri in St. Louis for many years. He was a published author and poet. John enjoyed playing his guitar, writing and creating beautiful wooden furniture. He was an avid Cardinals fan and absolutely loved spending time on the farm with his friend, Dave. Most of all, John cherished time spent with his family. He is survived by his mother: Marcella; daughters: Jacquelyn Hollaway of Indianapolis, Indiana and Julia Hollaway of St. Louis; brother: Kevin Hollaway (Catherine) of Jefferson City; sisters: Kimberly Becker of Bonnots Mill and Sherry Hoelscher of Jefferson City; and numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends. John was preceded in death by his father: Lee Hollaway; brother: Steven Lee Hollaway; sister: Karen Ann Licko; maternal grandparents: Rhina and Everette Warfield and Fred Wimmer; paternal grandparents: George and Christine Hollaway; and nephew: Jesse Meller. Friends will be received from 3:00 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday, April 26, 2019, at Houser-Millard Funeral Directors. A Memorial Service will immediately follow at 4:30 p.m. Expressions of sympathy can be made to the family of John Hollaway.
