Jimmie (Jim) Norman Dampf, 86, died Monday, September 24, 2018, at California Care Center. Jim was born on December 4, 1931, to Peter William and Mary Alma Jones Dampf. On December 30, 1956, he married LeEtta Charlotte Geiger, and together they raised a family and farmed south of California, Missouri. A lifelong resident of Moniteau County, Jim was educated at Harmony School, a one-room schoolhouse located near the family farm, and California High School. He was a Korean War veteran in the United States Army, serving stateside at Fort Polk, Louisiana, and Fort Riley, Kansas, before returning to the family farm where he built a diversified crop and livestock operation that remains in the family today. He always farmed with Allis Chalmers tractors and loved to go to tractor pulls at the county fair and the Missouri State Fair. Jim was active in the community, serving on the High Point School Board and the MFA Board. He also was active in the Moniteau County Pork Producers Association. He attended Corticelli Baptist Church as a child and, after marriage, was a member and attended the California United Church of Christ with his family. He was most happy at home, working on the farm and spending time with neighbors and friends. He taught his children the value of a hard day's work and the importance of humility in everyday life. Jim is survived by his wife, LeEtta, of the home; one daughter, Carol (Dave) Anderson, Overland Park, Kansas; one son, Doug (Beth) Dampf, of California; and three grandchildren: Katie Anderson, Dallas, Texas; and Peter and Grace Dampf of California. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Wilma Dampf, of California; and Wilma (Oscar) Knierim, of Jamestown, and their families. He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Emmett J. Dampf. The family wishes to thank Doctors Patrick Morello and E. Stinson Tillerson, the medical care teams at Capital Region Medical Center, Hospice Compassus and California Care Center for their compassionate care and support over the last several weeks. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 27, at Windmill Ridge Funeral Service in California. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Friday, Sept. 28, at California United Church of Christ with burial at Enloe Cemetery, Russellville. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the California United Church of Christ Memorial Fund.
