Lewis S. Long

Mr. Lewis S. Long, age 96 years, of Hartsburg, Mo., died Friday, October 26, 2018 at the Ashland Villa Assisted Living surrounded by his loving family. Lewis was born November 3, 1921 in Rural Miller County, Mo. the son of Willard L. and Marie Richardson Long. He was married on January 26, 1946 in Olathe, Kansas to Geneva J. Quick who preceded him in death on January 10, 2011. A resident of central Missouri for most of his life, Lewis was a 1941 graduate of Brumley High School in Brumley, Mo. Lewis proudly served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during World War II and was discharged a BM2. He was proud to be a participant in the Central Missouri Honor Flight in 2011 because he was always passionate about his service to our country. He was employed with the Jefferson City Transit Authority for forty years retiring as the Manager in 1981. Lewis was a member of the New Hope Baptist Church; the American Legion Post 424 in Hartsburg, Mo.; a member of the 40 & 8, Voiture 292; and a member of the Commanders Club of the Disabled American Veterans. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, playing cards with other veterans and attending St. Louis Cardinal Baseball games with his brother-in-law, Roy Quick. Most importantly, he cherished his time with his family and friends. Survivors include: two children, Terry S. Long and his wife Barbara of Jamestown, Mo. and Tracy R. Six and her husband Rick of Jefferson City, Mo.; four grandchildren, Jamie Long and his wife Jennifer of Jamestown, Mo., Nicole Dedrick and her husband Ryan of Jamestown, Mo., Michael Six of Jefferson City, Mo., and Kristen Six of Jefferson City, Mo.; and nine great-grandchildren, Ty Dedrick, Dawson Long, Addison Six, Sophia Six, Drew Dedrick, Calvin Long, Dalayna Long, Alana Long, and Lee Dedrick. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of sixty-four years, Geneva Long; one brother, Paul Long; and one sister, Lois Murrell. Visitation will be at Freeman Mortuary from 10:00 until 11:30 am Tuesday, October 30, 2018. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, 2018 in the Freeman Chapel with the Reverend James McCoy and the Reverend David Ray officiating. Graveside services and interment with military honors will be held at Hawthorn Memorial Gardens.
