Mr. John R. Kalina, age 63, of Jefferson City, passed away Sunday, October 21, 2018 at SSM Health St. Mary's Hospital in Jefferson City. He was born July 4, 1955 in Washington D.C., a son of the late John Ware and Dorothy Kalina. John was a simple man with a larger than life heart. He enjoyed cheering for University of Kentucky basketball, St. Louis Cardinal baseball, and Mizzou football; however he couldn't figure out why they were playing so terrible the last couple of weeks. Fitting, the last game he was able to watch, the Tigers won Saturday. John was best known for his commitment to providing safe transportation to hundreds of Jefferson City Public School children driving for First Student Bus #43, since 2011. He was the designated driver for the Jefferson City Show Choir, and many other JCPS athletic and activity functions. He was also the daily driver for North Elementary School students, all of whom he adored. He loved his children, and most of all treasured his family. He is survived by four children: Jacquline Tomlin (William) of Holts Summit, John Kalina Jr. of Holts Summit, Julia Rolufs (Jeff) of Holts Summit, Jennipher Stegeman (Justin) of Hartsburg; grandchildren: Elizabeth and Chloe Rolufs, Joseph and Jacob Stegeman, Matthew and Jonathan Tomlin; two brothers: Don Kalina and David Kalina; one sister: Sharon Kalina; and a host of extended family and special friends. Celebration of Life services will be 2 p.m., Sunday, November 11, 2018 in the Jefferson City High School Cafeteria. Arrangements are under the direction of TYLER M. WOODS FUNERAL DIRECTOR, 611 E. Capitol Ave., Jefferson City, MO 65101; (573) 636-2424. Condolences may be made to the family at www.WoodsMemorialServices.com
