Robert Alan Deck, age 87, formerly of Jefferson City, passed away Wednesday, October 3, 2018, in Wichita, Kan. He is "safe in the arms of Jesus." He was born January 7, 1931, the son of Howard C. Deck and Josephine G. Deck. He married Ruth Louise Barber on November 26, 1954, in Lima, New York. She survives. After Bob graduated from Lehigh University in 1952, with a degree in political science, he joined the army and served his country from 1952 - 1954. He was a faithful member of the Assemblies of God. His passion was missions, and he served as Missions Director of his church for several years. He participated in over 25 mission trips, helping to build Bible School libraries in Mexico, Uruguay, Malawi, Chile, Argentina, Jamaica, El Salvador, Brazil, Honduras and Haiti. Bob loved to travel and had been on every continent except Antarctica. He never met a stranger. Whatever one's occupation, interests or ethnicity he enjoyed meeting each one and could find something to talk about. He sang with the Jefferson City Cantorum for several years. Other survivors include: his children: Joanne Gomez (George); Raymond (Ruth) Deck and H. Christopher (Angela) Deck; nine grandchildren: Anna Gomez Shaw, David Gomez, Jordan Deck, Joshua Deck, Michael Deck, Samuel Deck, Katherine Deck, Elias Deck and Emma Deck; one great-grandchild; two brothers, Charles Deck of Florida and James Deck of New York; and a sister, Margaret Ablon of New York. Memorial Services will be held at First Assembly of God, Jefferson City, on Sunday, October 21, at 2 p.m. Interment will be at Hawthorne Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Latin America Caribbean Library Services, 3728 W. Chestnut Expressway, Springfield, MO 65802 or the American Heart Assn.
