Retired Command Sergeant Major Alfred Raymond Goff, 90, of Jefferson City, passed on to the other side on Friday, September 28, 2018, after a long battle with prostate cancer. Al was born September 18, 1928, in Columbia, a son of Corbett C. and Marie Sturm Goff. On April 11, 1958, Al married Vera May Adair Crum, who preceded him in death on June 25, 1990. Al served in the U.S. Army from 1948 to 1952, and with the Missouri Army National Guard from 1956, until his retirement in 1988. Al had attended the Disciples of Christ Church in California, Missouri until his illness intervened. He was a member of the VFW Post 1003, American Legion Post #5, National Guard Association, Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the US and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees. Survivors include his daughters, Gina Crum Engert (Kirk) of Mountain Home, Arkansas and Laura D. Goff of Jefferson City; sisters, Lois Staehle, Patricia Stanley, Marilyn Yard and JoAnne Ponder, all of California, Missouri. He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Alfred R. "Dutch" Goff Jr. in 1981; brothers, Ralph R. Goff and William H. Goff; and sisters, Josephine Hirschvogel and Margaret Miller. A private family memorial service will be held at a later date with Chaplain Jim Mueller officiating. Burial with military honors will take place at Resurrection Cemetery in Jefferson City.
