Steven Lee Hollaway

Steven Lee Hollaway, 60, of Laurie, passed away on Thursday May 24, 2018 at University Hospital, Columbia. He was born on August 7, 1957 in Linn, the son of Leroy Thomas Hollaway of Freeburg and Marcella Margaret (Wimmer) Hollaway of Loose Creek. He was married to Linda Conner of Laurie, on October 5, 1990, and she survives at their home. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the prestigious "Order of the Arrow". He graduated from Helias Catholic High School in Jefferson City and went on to study building trades and work in construction. He worked for Daniels Construction Company leading a crew that built the Nuclear Power Plant in Reform, Missouri. He stayed in construction for years before going back to school and obtaining certifications in water treatment. He became the Manager for Water Treatment for the City of Laurie where he worked until his death. He was recently elected to serve on the board for the State of Missouri's DNR. He loved his job and the people he worked with. Steve was an avid outdoorsman, he loved hunting, fishing, golfing, cooking, gardening and shooting. He also enjoyed helping at the numerous charity events in and around Laurie, such as the Kids Fishing Derby and the Turkey Shoot at the local American Legion. He was also a member of the local Elks Lodge, the NRA and was a true patriot who loved his country. Most of all, Steve loved spending time with his family and friends. Steve was quick to help those in need of just about anything. He was famous for his jerky, deer sausage, BBQ ribs and brisket and would readily share with everyone. Survivors include two sons, Christopher M. Hollaway of Jefferson City and Michael D. Waddell of Laurie; one daughter, Amanda L Dudenhoeffer of Linn and very close family friend, April Thompson of Laurie, who was like a daughter to Steve. Siblings include two brothers, Kevin James Hollaway and John David Hollaway of Jefferson City, and two sisters, Kimberly Jean Becker of Loose Creek and Sherry Marie Hoelscher of Jefferson City; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews. Steve was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Thomas Hollaway. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 30, 2018 at the Kidwell-Garber Laurie/Sunrise Beach Chapel from 2:00-3:00 p.m., with services to begin immediately after.
