Mary M. Riegel

Mary M. Riegel, age 82, of Loose Creek, passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018, at her daughter's residence near Koeltztown surrounded by her family. Mary was born January 12, 1936, in Taos, a daughter to the late John Joseph and Mary Gesina (Schnieders) Taube. On July 27, 1957, she was united in marriage to Marvin W. Riegel in Taos. He preceded her in death on April 12, 2009. Mary was a retired partner from Riegel and Weber Construction Company. She also worked at many area nursing homes as a CNA and CMT. In her younger years, she worked at several area shoe and textile manufacturing companies. She was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek, St. Ann's Sodality and the Senior Citizens Group. Mary was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great- grandmother. She was a very devoted Catholic and firm pro-life supporter. She loved to watch Fox News, EWTN, and talking politics and religion. She loved children and spending time with her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and was a very special "GG" to the end. She always said her great-grandchildren were a special type of medicine and better than any drug she could ever take when feeling bad. Great-grandchild Emery was a real buddy of hers all the way to the end. The family spent many years camping with family and enjoyed entertaining family and spending lots of time at Lost Valley Lake Resort. The last several years she spent a great deal of time living part time with her daughter in a new camper she had bought. She loved the country atmosphere and helping around the farm and house. She was a very hard working and talented woman. She was also a very compassionate and caring person, was always trying to help others and never saw a stranger. Mary and Marvin both loved to travel and traveled extensively in their golden years including going to Germany and Spain. Both were proud of and interested in their German ancestry. Her family includes: her five children, Diane (Jerry) Nilges of Loose Creek, Marvin G. (Christy) Riegel of Frankenstein, Shirley (George) Luebbering of Koeltztown, Brenda Riegel (deceased April 16, 1983), and Ann Riegel of Jefferson City; 11 grandchildren, Jamie (Jeff) Meyer, Craig (Carla) Nilges, Alan Riegel, Erica (Chris) Jaegers, Ashley (Brian) DuValeus, Devin Dudenhoeffer (deceased April 8, 2008), Michael (Jessica) Bax, Andy (Stacia) Bax, Heather, Matthew and Lucy Luebbering; 13 great-grandchildren, Connor and Carter Meyer, Alex, and Blakeley Nilges, Nolan and Luke Jaegers, Brielle, Brynlee and Emery DuValeus, Samantha and Jace Bax, Cora and Oliver Bax; one sister, Rita Forck of Taos; and a sister-in-law, Virginia Taube of Jefferson City. In addition to her parents, spouse of 51 years, her daughter and grandson, Mary was preceded in death by: seven brothers, Frank, August, Otto, Liberatus, Joe, Leo, and Anthony Taube; and five sisters, Kate Verslues, Barbara Rackers, Agatha Rustemeyer, Theresa Wolken, and Helen Berhorst. Visitation will be held from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, May 28, 2018, at Morton Chapel in Linn. An additional visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. until 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Loose Creek. Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 10:00 a.m. with Fr. Callistus Okoroji and Fr. William Debo as celebrants. Interment will be in the Loose Creek Parish Cemetery.
