Genevieve Dolores Boland, 88, passed away on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 following a brief illness. Genevieve (Gen) was born to Edwin Charles Bisch and Anna Catherine Riske on May 18, 1930 in St. Louis, Missouri. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy and attended St. Louis University. On September 8, 1951, she married Joseph Scott Boland who preceded her in death in 2003. She was a first grade teacher at St. Casimir Parish Elementary School prior to moving to Columbia, Missouri in 1967. While raising her family in Columbia, Gen spent many years working for Cloud Nine stores and volunteering at Medtique at the University of Missouri. She also volunteered many years at the Ellis Fischel Cancer Center Boutique where she served on the Auxiliary Board. Gen's favorite pastimes were playing bridge and spending time with her family and friends. She was an avid reader, a great cook, an accomplished seamstress, and an enthusiastic mall walker. She cherished her roles of mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a thoughtful and generous friend who touched many lives in a positive way. Her gentle spirit, compassionate nature, inner strength and trust in God were the hallmarks of her character. Survivors include her children: Dr. Kathryn Van Winkle of Austin, Texas, Susan Whitesides (Bruce) of Columbia, Thomas Boland (Lisa) of Columbia, Joseph Boland (Deanna) of Jefferson City; grandchildren: Will McWilliams (Crystal), Blake McWilliams (Beth), Lucas Boland, Kaitlyn Boland, Lauren Crystal (Ryan), Nicholas Boland and Genna Grace Boland; and three great-grandchildren: Cohen, Charliegh and Ryan McWilliams. Visitation will be at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church on Tuesday, May 29 from 10-11:30 a.m., with Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 a.m. with interment at Memorial Park Cemetery.
